Editor’s note: Another in a series of occasional stories about York County in the American Revolution, part of the buildup in research and storytelling to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation in 2026 and 2027, respectively. In the early 1870s, medical student John M. Hyson, soon to become Red Lion’s doctor, treated an aged man with a story to tell. The old military veteran had served as a young drummer boy in the American Revolution.
