    MILLER CITY – Sometimes it’s the little things. Miller City’s offense was its usual prolific self in an 8-4 Putnam County League baseball win over Columbus Grove on Monday. But it was the first two of those eight runs that caught the eye of the Wildcats’ coach Dusty Pester. After Columbus Grove scored twice in the top of the first inning, Miller City (15-2, 4-1 PCL) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of that inning and went on to eventually score eight runs to take control of the game.

    Aaron Hutchins, the 1994 Ohio Mr. Basketball when he played at Lima Central Catholic, has been hired as Perry’s boys basketball coach. Hutchins, a 5-10 guard, scored 1,497 points in his three seasons at LCC from 1992-1994. He averaged 25.3 points and 7.1 assists a game as a senior. The Thunderbirds had a 73-6 record during his career and played in the boys state basketball tournament in each of those three seasons.

In a matchup of the Western Buckeye League’s two unbeaten baseball teams, Wapakoneta and Defiance, both teams got dominant pitching in a 3-1 win for the Bulldogs on Wednesday. That ultra-effective pitching by Defiance’s Brez Zipfel (7 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 12 strikeouts) and Wapakoneta’s Grant Jolly (7 innings, 3 hits, 3 unearned runs, 10 strikeouts) opened the door for one or two missteps to play an outsized role in the showdown.

    HARROD – Since starting the season 3-4, Allen East’s baseball team has won seven games in a row after beating Crestview 5-3 on Monday. So, how have the Mustangs been able to rewrite the script of their season so fast? “We feel good. We’re performing well offensively and defensively and on the mound we’re working with some pitchers,” Allen East coach Tyler Stevens said.
