    The Miami Columbus boys’ volleyball team won two games in regionals, after losing a close battle to Miami High in the District 15-3A finals. The Stingarees (20-7) won the district title 25-22, 31-29, 25-21, after losing three times to Columbus in the regular season. Both teams advanced to regionals. Miami High beat Davie Western 25-23, 25-19, 25-21 in a Region 4-3A quarterfinal but then was eliminated by Miami Southwest 25-21, 25-12, 18-25, 25-20 in a Region 4-3A semifinal.

    Miami Gulliver Prep girls’ water polo player Isabella Ten-Have is the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll. The sophomore had a team high 3 goals as the Raiders (27-1) avenged their only loss of the season by beating Seminole 8-5 for the FHSAA state title. In the state semifinal win over West Orange, she had 4 goals and 3 assists.

    Miami Divine Savior senior Lauren Kettlewell ended her high school varsity tennis career in style by winning an FHSAA State Championship at girls’ No.1 singles in Class 1A to become the first Divine Savior tennis player to win state. Kettlewell is the daughter of Divine Savior tennis coach Jenny Sotomayor.

    Three local teams won region titles in flag football, qualifying for state, beginning May 8 in Tampa. Miami Edison defeated Miami Slam 33-0 for a Class 1A region title. The Red Raiders (17-1) play Tallahassee Florida State University High (15-3) in a state semifinal. Homestead defeated Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas 25-19 for a Class 3A region title. The Broncos (16-4) play Tallahassee Chiles (14-4) in a state semifinal.
