There’s a behind the scenes battle quietly being waged in the Republican Party over who will carry the MAGA torch after Donald Trump. Trump is barely into his last lame duck term as president and Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance are maneuvering to emerge as front runner in 2028. The question is, who will MAGA voters trust to follow Trump? It’s not too soon to speculate about who will assume the void after Trump.

Will ancient Ed Markey skate to another cushy Senate term despite a push from some Democrats to get rid of the old dead wood? Markey turns 79 next month and will be 80 by the time he faces a primary, yet no prominent Democrat has emerged who has the courage to primary him. How does Markey continue to remain relevant? He’s the master of media hits, the king of Zoom, lusting for liveshots on national TV with a strategically placed potted plant in the background to discuss the latest Donald Trump outrage. Turn on a bright light and he will beat the mosquitoes to it. He practically trips over the tripods to get to Jake Tapper. U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton is leaving the rest of the Massachusetts Democratic delegation in the dust when it comes to cozying up to the camera.

Michelle Wu’s duplicitous stunt demanding Freedom of Information responses from ICE is just the latest laughable Democratic tactic to stoke opposition to President Donald Trump’s deportation roundup. Wu signed an executive order requesting ICE release information on all its immigration arrests even though her own administration routinely ignores or objects to such public information requests.
