May 13—WILLMAR — The Alexandria boys golf team finished six-under-par en route to victory in a Central Lakes Conference meet hosted by Willmar at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Alexandria, which had its four scoring golfers in the top 8, totaled a 282 on Tuesday. That score was low enough to beat Brainerd's 291 and Willmar's 301. AdvertisementBrainerd's Jack Hagberg and Alexandria's Henry Buttweiler and Blake Scholl finished in a three-way tie for first place. All three carded three-under-par 69s.

May 13—DETROIT LAKES — The Willmar softball completed an impressive sweep of the Detroit Lakes Lakers on Tuesday. Willmar won 23-2 and 10-0. Both games went five innings. In Game 2, Claire Guennigsmann tossed a shutout, striking out 14 and walking one. She allowed two hits. AdvertisementParker Rucks homered and drove in two runs and Isley Ripperger ripped a double and scored two runs, driving in one, for the Cardinals. In Game 1, Willmar scored 10 times in the top of the fifth.

ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria boys and girls wound up with titles Tuesday at the Lohrman Invitational track and field meet. Willmar’s girls took fourth and the boys were fifth. Alexandria’s girls had 171 points through 17 of 18 events. The pole vault results weren’t posted. Willmar scored 68. It had three first-place finishes. Lauren Eilers won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 16.65 seconds.

SUNBURG — The Lac qui Parle Valley baseball team continued its late-season roll on Tuesday. The Eagles won their fifth straight game with a 9-2 victory over host Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in a Camden Conference contest at Willie Reigstad Park. The win puts LQPV at 8-6 overall and 5-4 in the Camden. KMS falls to 5-11 overall and 4-6 in Camden play.
