    The 2025 West Central Tribune All-Area Softball Team has a mix of old and new. The old: Four of the nine first teamers are back from a year ago and two are jumping up from the second team. Three area standouts — BOLD’s Kaitlyn Flann, Paynesville’s Kaydence Roeske and Yellow Medicine East’s Bayli Sneller — are each on the first team for the third time. The new: While some players are familiar with the accolades, there are plenty of underclassmen who represent the 18-player field.

    Jun. 17—WILLMAR — The home opener was a rough one for the Willmar American Legion baseball team on Tuesday. Post 167 was held without a hit in a 13-0 five-inning loss to the St. Cloud Chutes at Elsie Klemmetson Field. The loss drops Willmar to 0-2 on the season. AdvertisementSt. Cloud pitcher Jack Hamak threw the five-inning no-hitter. The left-hander struck out seven and gave up a walk to Tyler Madsen in the bottom of the first inning. Hamak retired 14 straight batters to end the game.

    GLENWOOD — Austin VerSteeg was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Aaron VerSteeg went 2-for-4 in Starbuck’s 3-1 County Line League victory over the Paynesville Pirates on Sunday at Marthaler Field. Austin also got the pitching win, going the first six innings. He struck out seven and walked three, allowing five hits and one earned run. Colin Richards earned the save, striking out two in the ninth. Matt Gruber was 2-for-4 with a run and Mitch Gruber went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Stars.

    BISMARCK, N.D. — The Willmar Stingers and Bismarck Larks had a weekend split after the Larks got a walk-off win on Sunday. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, a single by Carson Luna brought home Jayder Raifstanger to put Bismarck in the win column with a 2-1 victory Sunday in front of 1,082 fans at the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark. The loss puts Willmar at 10-7 this season in the Northwoods League. Bismarck improves to 6-14.
