    SACRED HEART — The Milroy Yankees came to play on Friday night. Milroy lashed out 11 hits on top of a handful of Sacred Heart mishaps in its 12-7 victory in the Corn Belt League game. The Yankees, 2-4 in league play, are 3-4. The Saints (0-6) are searching for their first win. Alex Schuh, who drove in Milroy’s final run, batted 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBIs and three stolen bases. Sacred Heart made it 11-6 with three runs in the sixth.

    ATWATER — Jack Peterson put together a gem in the Atwater Chuckers’ home opener on Friday. The right-hander struck out 14 with four hits and one walk allowed over eight scoreless innings in Atwater’s 5-0 County Line League victory over the New London-Spicer Twins at Kingery Field. Jeff Peterson was the Chuckers’ top hitter, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Jonas Morrison hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

    COLD SPRING — Tom DeBoer had been waiting for this version of the Willmar baseball team to show itself. After a 5-13 regular season, the Cardinals got the sixth seed in the eight-team Section 8AAA tournament. Two games in, Willmar is playing as the bracket buster and is one win away from reaching the section championship game. The Cardinals reached the semis with a 7-3 victory over third-seeded Rocori on Thursday at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.

    May 27—WILLMAR — Madison Norsten got to play the hero twice in one day for the Willmar softball team. Norsten scored the walk-off run in a 3-2 victory over Little Falls in Game 1 of the Section 8AAA elimination bracket Tuesday at the Willmar Civic Center softball field. In Game 2 against Hutchinson, the senior hit an RBI triple that began a three-run third inning for the Cardinals. That led to a 3-0 victory over the Tigers.

    SPICER — Kaden Toutges and Esau Nelson gave fans a pitching duel in the opening round of the Section 3AA-North playoffs on a rain-drizzled Tuesday. And it was the senior, Toutges, who led fourth-seeded New London-Spicer to a 4-2 victory over fifth-seeded Paynesville at the Green Lake Diamonds. NLS, 13-7 overall, advances to play top-seeded Morris/Chokio-Alberta, which beat the Wildcats 7-1 in Spicer on April 15, at 5 p.m. Thursday at Morris. The Bulldogs finish 14-7 overall.
