The Mecklenburg County Commission meeting was disrupted by protestors of the Central Piedmont Community College Law Enforcement Training Center Tuesday night. Allegedly someone released crickets inside the chamber. ALSO READ: Push for prayer at Cabarrus school board meetings draws legal challengeThe meeting then had to pause while a member of the cleaning crew came in to vacuum them up. Witnesses told Channel 9’s Joe Bruno that the crickets were everywhere.

Charlotte City Council is considering spending $25 million to upgrade the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This is the first major renovation project for the city-owned facility since its opening in 2010. “We done updates from an exhibit standpoint,” Executive Director Winston Kelley said. “But nothing on this level of magnitude.”A significant portion of the Hall of Fame would see changes under the proposal. A new education space would go where the current gift shop is located.

Four days after a Lexington School District 2 bus overturned in Chester County, the driver of the bus wrote a letter documenting his version of events. The school district released the letter to Channel 9 on Monday in response to a records request. A 13-year-old student died in the April 17 crash on Interstate 77 in Chester County after the bus flipped on its side. Chester County Emergency Management said 38 people had to be taken to the hospital.
