State Senators Scott Wiener and Jesse Arreguin just introduced a new bill that would ban law enforcement agents from being masked on the job, a move seemingly targeted at federal ICE agents who’ve been wearing gaiters while performing recent raids. It’s an ironic turn that after years of anti-mask tantrums during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Donald Trump supporters have suddenly become incredibly fond of masks.

In at least the third incident of vandalism in the last few months at the former Great Highway, now the park Sunset Dunes, a public piano at the park was damaged “beyond repair” over the weekend, after another installation had just been vandalized.

Both of the Chestnut Street movie theaters owned by Lee Neighborhood Theaters, the Marina Theatre and Presidio Theatre, and up for sale, as the Lees are retiring after nearly 60 years of their family operation running SF movie houses. We’re coming up on the final reel of an SF movie theater mini-empire that dates back to Frank Lee, Sr. opening the Bella Union theater in Chinatown in 1964.

A 27-year-old man was reportedly sucker-punched to the ground and kicked multiple times by assailants allegedly shouting “F*** Jews” sometime before 2:30 am Saturday morning in the Marina District, and one suspect was arrested for assault. We learned over the weekend of an alleged antisemitic attack in the Marina District occurring at about 2:20 am Saturday morning on Fillmore Street near Moulton Street, according to the Chronicle.

Chase Strangio is the first transgender attorney to argue a case before the US Supreme Court. Strangio’s story is told in a documentary at next week’s Frameline film festival, and the court’s decision is also expected to come down during Frameline. The United States Supreme Court has a strange habit of changing the tenor of SF Pride celebrations. Sometimes this is glorious, like in 2015 when the Court ruled that same-sex marriage would be legal on the Friday morning of Pride Weekend.
