The Pirates officially moved on from Derek Shelton on Thursday, and it is a move that was long overdue. Shelton guided the Pirates through a record of 306-440 in five-plus seasons as the Pirates manager, and there are very few areas you can point to that suggest he was having any success on any level. I can’t think of a single player who has gotten markedly better under his watch. I can’t think of a single stretch of games when the Pirates looked the part of a team turning the corner.
