Green councillor Alex Staniforth, who is behind one of the motions, pointed to the US president’s history and his record when recommending that the city oppose a visit.

TOILETS at Edinburgh Leisure and council-owned venues including the Edinburgh International Conference Centre could be opened to the public in a bid to tackle a lack of public facilities in the city. Green councillor Dan Heap put forward a motion to open toilets at Edinburgh Leisure facilities, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and other council-owned companies to the public.

Gillian Martin has said hydrogen is an industry where Scotland has a competitive advantage (Image: NQ staff) SCOTLAND'S new hydrogen export plan can help it become a world leader in producing the zero carbon fuel, according to the acting Energy Secretary. Gillian Martin told The National that producing and distributing hydrogen was "one of the big economic opportunities" Scotland has, and that the country has a natural advantage in the industry.

KATE Forbes said Scotland's economy is "recovering steadily" as new figures showed the country's GDP grew by 0.3% between August and September. Meanwhile, the economy of the UK as a whole saw its GDP increase by 0.1% in the same period. The Scottish Government report the figures were drawn from said that "slightly higher levels of growth since March 2024 may indicate a change in trend".

Scottish airport named second worst in UK for flight cancellations ABERDEEN'S airport is the second worst in the UK for flight cancellations, according to new figures. Data from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) shows that 5.19% of flights leaving Aberdeen Airport – 124 in 2386 – were cancelled in September. It narrowly missed being the worst in the UK, which was Teesside International Airport with 5.22% of departures cancelled.
