    OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Inside this black car at the Nebraska Humane Society, the temperature rose from 90 to 118 degrees in just 20 minutes. Animal control officer Kiana Barish was in the car with a fake dog. "We do it for the greater good. We want to spread awareness. It got really hot. It was hard to breathe," said Barish. NHS said in the summer is where it typically sees more instances of dogs left in cars. In fact, this year, NHS has responded to 52 complaints.

    OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Creighton University leaders and others broke ground, Wednesday on the over 200 thousand square foot softball competition field and baseball practice field. The softball field will have enhanced facilities like a dugout, dedicated bullpen, and a video board. The baseball field will serve not only as a practice field, but as a training ground for Omaha youth sports and teams heading to the College World Series.

    DOUGLAS COUNTY, Neb. (KMTV) — This land near 222nd and Center could be turned into over 60 townhomes. And neighbors said they're upset about it. One reason is because just a short distance away is this intersection, which neighbors said is dangerous. They sais the potential townhomes would only make it worse. Since 2018, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has reported 27 crashes at the intersection. For years, neighbors said they've been asking for change.

    OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The Sobansky family, mourning their daughter, Zara "AJ" Sobansky. In a statement they said in part: "AJ was she was smart, talented, and completely unique. An excellent student, AJ was actively involved outside the classroom as well."Omaha Police said it was determined that Sobansky was killed by 18-year-old Tristan Doner, Friday night near the Stokes Grill and Bar. OPD isn’t releasing any information about the relationship between the two teens.

    GRETNA, Neb. (KMTV) — Brian and Sheri Haberberger started camping a couple years ago as an alternative way to see the country. "It's a stress relief to be able to get outside and see nature and also see cities we normally wouldn't have as a destination," said Brian. They're some of the first people to stay at the new 17-acre expansion. The West Omaha KOA is just off of the interstate past the Gretna exit. It serves the Gretna, Omaha, and Lincoln region.
