    FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Jersey Mike’s has opened a new location in Freeport. The storefront, at 2705 IL Rt. 26, opened on Wednesday. The grand opening will include a fundraiser for Freeport area schools. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations have raised more than $175 million for local charities. In 2025, the company’s 15th annual Month of Giving, held in March, raised $30 million for more than 200 charities. The Freeport Jersey Mike’s will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.

    OREGON, Ill. (WTVO) — The Oregon Junior and High schools will have a new principal this summer. Jen Speakes, of Mount Morris, will take the position. Her past experience includes teaching at Belvidere and Jefferson high schools, as well as serving as principal at Meridian Junior High School in Stillman Valley, under former superintendent PJ Caposey, who now serves as the Oregon School District superintendent. Caposey said Speakes is “exactly the right fit” for the schools.

    DODGEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Wis. (WTVO) — A woman charged with stabbing a man at a Rockford Days Inn hotel has been arrested in Wisconsin. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office said an anonymous tip led to the arrest of Natalie Jurgensmeier, 46. Police said the tip was received on April 22nd and arrested Jurgensmeier at “a premises in Dodgeville Township.”According to the Cherry Valley Police Department, officers were called to the Days Inn at 220 S.

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — UW Health has revived its “Caring Canines” program and is searching for new volunteers. The program was first started in 2010, allowing local residents to volunteer their dogs to visit patients at the hospital, with organizers saying dogs bring a special comfort to patients and staff. It was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s been proven that dog visits are more beneficial than human visits.

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford’s air quality has received an “F” grade from the American Lung Association, making it the 52nd worst in the nation. According to the report, Rockford residents are exposed to over five unhealthy days of air pollution per year, a significant increase from 2024. The Greater Rockford Area also received a “D” grade on ground pollution, the 63rd worst in the country. The report said residents are exposed to over three unhealthy days a year due to ground pollution.
