A developer has submitted a revised design for part of a major Bedford housing scheme that would lower the height of one building to avoid triggering tougher fire safety regulations. Bells Viero Ltd, the developer behind the redevelopment of the former Hazlewood Foods site on Dallas Road, has applied to Bedford Borough Council to move 10 apartments from the seventh floor of Block C to a newly added sixth floor on Block A.

Bedford Borough Council has said that its promotion of the upcoming Bamberg Beer Festival does not breach its new advertising policy restricting the promotion of alcohol because the event was booked before the policy was adopted. The council’s recently approved Healthier Advertising and Sponsorship Policy, published in April 2025, bans the advertising of alcohol products — including low- and zero-alcohol alternatives — in council communications and sponsorships.

Bedford Borough Council says it is carefully reviewing its policies following a recent Supreme Court ruling which confirmed that the term "woman" under the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex. In a statement to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), the council said it was aware of the judgment and of the interim guidance issued by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
