On April 24 1932, around 400 ramblers, mostly from Manchester, descended on Hayfield in Derbyshire to take part in a mass trespass onto Kinder Scout. They were led by 20-year-old Benny Rothman. Hayfield had long been a popular weekend destination for walkers from the Greater Manchester area due to its proximity and good rail links. Arriving regularly in their thousands, they helped support cafes and many other shops, and businesses.

ORANGE — Desa Stone has worn a lot of hats throughout her athletic, academic and professional career. From being a varsity athlete in four different sports to serving as a coach and official, Stone is well-versed in what it takes to run a successful high school athletic department. Stone will get that opportunity at Orange County High School, where she was recently named the director of athletics and activities. “I am extremely excited to have this opportunity,” Stone said.

Sports were always a part of Margaret-Ann Graves' life growing up, and in high school, she elected to challenge herself by adding another sport to the mix. Covenant School coach Colleen Norair encouraged her to try out for the Eagles' field hockey team to take advantage of the speed and competitive drive that she had already demonstrated on the lacrosse field.
