The driver who was behind the wheel of the bus that killed Joseph, Jean Charles, resigned from Transdev on May 14, shortly before a scheduled termination hearing. He had been driving school buses with an expired state-required credential since December 2024, the statement said.

On April 28, a bus struck and killed a 5-year-old Boston Public Schools student in Hyde Park. The victim, Lens A. Joseph, was on his way home from UP Academy Dorchester.
