Happy Wednesday, Colorado, and welcome to a policy-packed edition of The Temperature. The lilacs in my Denver neighborhood are in bloom, and that means I’ve been spending a lot of time smushing my nose into bushes in strangers’ yards. There’s something about the annuality — annualness? — of their blossoms that is reassuring, like a memory water slide whooshing directly back to carefree spring and summer days of youth.

Bless you, Colorado, in both the philosophical sense and in the hyper-local meaning of gesundheit when an April zephyr drives cherry blossom pollen straight up your nose. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to wash my hands during one school lunch sandwich construction when a sneezing fit hits during the mayo course. Kennedy Jr. taking over the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The move comes in an amendment to a bill, House Bill 1027, currently awaiting Gov. Jared Polis’ signature. The amendment makes a change to how Colorado decides which vaccines to require.

The new infection was reported in a person in Archuleta County, and the person who was infected did not report having recently traveled outside Colorado. That likely means, for what would be the first time in years, Colorado has seen a confirmed instance of local transmission of measles.
