Colorado has identified two more cases of measles tied to a Turkish Airlines flight into Denver, bringing the total number of infections among Colorado residents linked to the flight to seven. The newest infections are in a Denver resident who was aboard the flight and an El Paso County resident who crossed paths with an infectious traveler in the airport. The flight, Turkish Airlines flight 201, took off from Istanbul and landed at Denver International Airport on May 13.

Hey there, Colorado, and welcome to another edition of The Temperature. I’ve been thinking a bit lately about sliding doors — specifically the sliding doors at the entrance to the Children’s Hospital Colorado emergency department in Aurora. About two weeks ago, they slid open when my wife and I carried our infant inside for a check on his oxygen levels as he dealt with that made it hard for him to breathe and put a cannula up his nose. He was ultimately fine then and is fine-r now.

Colorado on Sunday reported three more measles cases tied to a Turkish Airlines flight that landed at Denver International Airport last month, bringing the total number of infections connected to the flight to at least six. Five of those cases — including all three announced Sunday — are in Colorado residents, meaning the incident now meets the official definition of an outbreak. However, there is no evidence so far of ongoing transmission occurring in Colorado.

Colorado on Thursday reported its second case of measles in two days — both of which are now linked to a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul that landed at Denver International Airport. An adult from Arapahoe County who was vaccinated against the disease is the latest person reported to be infected, making this a rare breakthrough infection. The adult is reported to be recovering at home.

Colorado on Wednesday reported its sixth case of measles this year in a state resident — this time in a child who is now hospitalized, according to the state Health Department. The child, described as a toddler under the age of 5 by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, visited the Children’s ER in Aurora on the evening of Thursday, May 22; the morning of Monday, May 26; and overnight Monday into Tuesday, May 27.
