SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The Vermont Law and Graduate School has received a grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide civil legal services to veterans who may experience homelessness. The Veterans Legal Assistance Program at the school is staffed by one full-time attorney, along with a fellow who specializes in housing insecurity issues, and second and third-year law students who work directly with clients.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Doctors at the UVM Medical Center are working to fight cancer and participants in the dozens of clinical trials underway there can help. May 20 is Clinical Trials Awareness Day, an opportunity for medical professionals to educate the public on what's out there they can participate in, and to dispel myths and misinformation. The University of Vermont Cancer Center is currently running more than 100 different trials.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The age-old saying 'run off and join the circus' sat well with Circus Smirkus founder Rob Mermin, who is releasing a memoir at the end of May. Mermin is a Vermont native who has worked in the circus business for over 50 years as the former Dean of the Ringling Brothers Clown College and the founder of Circus Smirkus. His new memoir is titled Circles of Sawdust: A Circus Memoir of Mud, Myth, Mirth, Mayhem, and Magic.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The University of Vermont is partnering with the University of New England to expand medical education for college graduates interested in rural health care. Under the agreement, students who complete UVM's Post-Bacc Pre-Med program are guaranteed an interview for UNE's Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree program. Officials say it's a way to equip students or career changers to gain the necessary health and science prerequisites and pursue paths in health care.
