Julia Tobey has plenty of reasons for wanting to open a swank new coffee shop, performance venue and event space on a hot corner of Northwest Denver. But you might be surprised by what’s No. 1. "Our venue will help humans struggling with loneliness," said Tobey, a longtime local theater and events producer as the owner of Give 5 Productions, which has never had a permanent home – till now.

Colorado State Poet Laureate Andrea Gibson’s audience is about to grow immensely. Apple TV+ has acquired the documentary “Come See Me in the Good Light,” a critically acclaimed documentary that focuses on Gibson’s journey since getting an incurable cancer diagnosis. The film was a huge hit at the recent Boulder International Film Festival and won the Festival Favorite Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It will debut on Apple TV+ this fall.

The Colorado theater community is mourning a titan named Titus. Yes, Titus was a dog, and he went out the way every actor would want to exit the stage: performing on the very last day of his life. Today, we tap a few spots on our smartphones and whatever we want is brought to our front door. Usually the next day. Takes a lot of the hassle out of doing business. It also takes a lot of the people out of doing business. I have no relationships with anyone at Amazon. I'm guessing that you don't either. But growing up in Ashdown, Arkansas, everyone had relationships with everyone else. Every town revolved around personal relationships. Mr. Welch owned the men's store.

I get some variation of the question every time the homegrown Denver Center Theatre Company presents a Broadway musical. Right now, it goes something like this: ‘Why isn’t the national touring production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ being staged in the Buell Theatre?’”The answer: It’s not a national touring production. It’s a homegrown staging of “Little Shop” that’s being created right here, for Denver eyes only. But the confusion is understandable.
