The victim in the April 17 deadly shooting at Airport Mart Exxon was shot more than once, according to police. “The victim was shot multiple times with a firearm in the parking [lot] of the business,” according to a complaint filed Friday in Danville Circuit Court. Authorities arrested a Danville man, 21-year-old Jaelynn Lowen, Sunday in Louisiana following the homicide of Pinakin Patel, 47, according to a Monday news release from the Danville Police Department.

A Danville man has been arrested and accused of helping the suspect in Thursday’s homicide flee the scene. Keontae Malik Tarpley, 21, has been charged with accessory after the fact following the fatal shooting of 47-year-old Pinakin Patel at Airport Mart Exxon at 1385 South Boston Road on Thursday afternoon.

The city of Danville wants to open a satellite visitor center at the Caesars Virginia casino resort. Economic development and tourism officials hope that the casino’s visitors will venture beyond the resort and explore other parts of the Southside Virginia region. “We see a unique opportunity to engage with the estimated 2 million visitors expected at Caesars Virginia this year,” Corrie Bobe, Danville’s director of economic development and tourism, told the Register & Bee on Thursday.

The Virginia Tobacco Commission is providing $1.5 million for a battery energy storage project at Mount Cross Road. The money includes a $750,000 loan and a $750,000 grant from the commission to help cover the $13 million project, said Danville Utilities Director Jason Grey. “This will be used to help pay down the cost of the project,” Grey said.
