Thanks to a Russian dance troupe with a snarky wardrobe mistress several decades ago, Helena’s very own “Nutcracker” production was born at Premiere Dance Company. This weekend it celebrates its 25th anniversary. In addition to 2 p.m. dance performances Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Helena Civic Center, there’s also a banquet honoring artistic director Charlene White Saturday night at Carroll College.

Helena’s annual farewell concert to the Christmas season is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, featuring music by prominent local organist Joe Munzenrider and guest soprano Gretchen Mundinger. It’s not only a night to celebrate the historic Twelfth Night period, Dec. 25 through Jan. 5, but also the music of two extremely talented Helenans. The concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1000 Helena Ave., benefits the church’s organ fund. “The music will be of the Season, and not,” said Munzenrider.

Since then they’ve become fast colleagues and friends.

The classic children’s fable came alive Saturday morning for Symphony Kids latest concert at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
