ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A train derailment involving two Alaska Railroad locomotives was the cause of a diesel fuel spill, according to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC). According to ADEC, the spill was reported at 3:15 a.m. on Friday, roughly 20 miles north of Talkeetna at railroad milepost 248, an area known as Curry Siding.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A vigil was held for Tony Kronos in his home community of Eagle River on Friday night. Kronos, who friends say was “an amazing person and soul,” disappeared nearly three months ago on March 6. According to organizers, the candlelight vigil at Sleepy Dog Coffee Shop was a way for family, friends and concerned members of the public, to congregate and share stories of their lost loved one.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The family of Easter Leafa, the 16-year-old who died in an officer involved shooting in August, and the Municipality of Anchorage have reached a $2.11 million dollar settlement. According to a release from Mayor Suzanne LaFrance’s office, the multi-million dollar settlement was a strategic call to “minimize risks and costs in light of the specific circumstances of each case”.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - With less than a week until a REAL ID-compliant state-issued driver’s license will be required for every air traveler over the age of 18 — unless you have a passport or military ID — it’s crunch time if you’re looking for a smooth experience getting through TSA. “The beginning of the federal enforcement of REAL ID will begin on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at airports across the country,” said Lorie Dankers with TSA Public Affairs. “This is not unique to Anchorage.
