Walk brings awareness to issue of elder abuseThe Elder Abuse Awareness Walk will be held on June 14 at Triad Park in Kernersville. Address of the park is 9652 W. Market St., Kernersville. The goal is to raise awareness in the community about elder abuse – including issues such as scams and frauds that target seniors and caregiver abuse/neglect. The walk is free to attend and open to all ages.

Winston-Salem Police are investigating the fatal Saturday shooting of a 32-year-old man. Officers - responding at 1:34 p.m. to the 2700 block of Piedmont Circle - found Alex Devonte Saunders on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. Emergency Medical Services arrived, and Saunders was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His next of kin has been notified. The incident appears to be isolated, police said.

Parkinson’s Forward plans to meetParkinson’s Forward, a support group for people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners, will meet on Wednesday May 21, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Drive in Winston-Salem. The speaker will be Brittany Smith, PhD, assistant professor of exercise science at Catawba College. Smith is a graduate of Kent State University where her research focused on exercise interventions for individuals with Parkinson's disease.
