HOUSTON, Texas (KIAH) — Chances of rain in the Houston area this week are low to nil, but come the weekend, a storm system is set to change that – just in time for Easter. Call it bad timing, but after a warm and muggy airmass gave way to cooler and drier air behind an early-week cold front, it’s a late season storm system heading in Texas’ direction that could bring lightning and thunder on Easter Sunday.

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Residents of Southeast Texas should prepare for a notably chilly evening tonight, as clear skies and diminishing winds set the stage for radiational cooling, and a second night in-a-row with winter-like temperatures. Overnight lows will bottom out in the upper 30s and low 40s in the Houston area. That means Tuesday morning will feel more like February than April. The reason has to do with the atmospheric process that helps keep the Earth’s temperature in check: Radiational Cooling.

HOUSTON, Texas (KIAH) — A tornado watch is in effect until 9pm CST Saturday, for the following counties: Harris, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Chambers, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery, San Jacinto and Polk. Strong storms have been moving through Southeast Texas throughout the afternoon, brining heavy rain, small hail and numerous lightning strikes. The activity will continue into the early evening, exiting to the east by 9pm.

HOUSTON, Texas (KIAH) — The threat of severe weather on Saturday is increasing by the day, and now the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has some portions of Southeast Texas under an “Enhanced Risk” for it. On Wednesday, storm formation is expected to stay to the north of the area. The SPC has only painted a marginal risk for our northern counties on Friday. HOUSTON (KIAH) — Many of us in Southeast Texas will see record breaking temperatures this afternoon. The forecast for Houston is 90 degrees, which would break the old record of 87 set in 2023. However, the normal high temperature in Houston for today is 78 degrees. What’s striking, is that the temperatures this morning were about 78 degrees. In fact, Houston broke the “record high minimum temperature” this morning.

The flood watch for portions of Southeast Texas that was scheduled to expire later tonight at 7pm, has been cancelled early, as of 9:00am. Rainfall totals in the southwestern counties of Southeast Texas has been significant, with some rain gauges showing nearly 3″ having falling in the area around Matagorda Bay, and radar indicating totals of 5″ in Wharton County.
