MP urges Reeves to back upgrades to East-West route

A Staffordshire MP has urged Chancellor Rachel Reeves to back upgrades to a busy East to West Midlands route ahead of the government's spending review. Burton and Uttoxeter MP Jacob Collier said the A50 and A500 corridor between Stoke and Derby needed "urgent" investment to support the Midlands economy, and major employers like JCB, Toyota and Rolls-Royce.

Pottery workers campaigning to save a factory which has gone into liquidation have said soaring energy prices are to blame. Moorcroft Pottery in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, ceased trading at the end of April with the loss of 57 jobs, following 112 years of trading. Former workers have said the jobs represented a total of 1,500 years of combined service and skills, and hope a takeover bid will be accepted by the deadline on 4 June.

Workers who are campaigning to save Moorcroft and the wider Stoke-on-Trent pottery industry have spoken out. Pottery workers who last month were told they were being made redundant after Moorcroft's collapse say soaring energy prices are to blame. In March Moorcroft issued a warning of possible redundancies. Now more than half of the 57 workers met at GMB headquarters in Hanley to discuss next steps and receive support on their futures.
Building renovated at former ceramics factory

The redevelopment of the former Spode Works ceramics factory in Stoke-on-Trent has reached another milestone, with the renovation of another building. Building 4L in the historic Bottle Kiln Courtyard has been completed and is now fully occupied. The building had been largely unused since the factory closed and was in a state of severe disrepair, with a partially-collapsed roof, rotting timbers, broken windows and asbestos contamination.

A consultation into the future of a North Staffordshire market has ended, with final plans set to be presented later this year. Last year Staffordshire Moorlands District Council paid £260,000 for Cheadle market at auction following concerns over its future. Over the past few weeks the local authority have been consulting on the plans for the future of the site but are clear that no final plans have been agreed.

Stoke-on-Trent's first ever Hindu temple will throw open its doors today for a weekend of celebrations. The three-day event will be the culmination of 50 years of work to get the place of worship up and running and fully consecrated. It will open on Bold street, off Keelings Road in Hanley after the Hindu Cultural Society purchased the building in 2016. Work has been ongoing for years to get the building ready with a modern kitchen built.
Prominent Hanley building to be empty as charity moves out after 30 years

A top North Staffordshire charity which has helped thousands of residents is preparing to leave its headquarters after 30 years. North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Citizens Advice, currently based at Advice House in Hanley, will relocate to a new site in the city this September. The move will see the closure of Advice House, Canal Arm at Festival Park, and Brindley Court in Newcastle-under-Lyme over the coming months.
