In February, Suzuki confirmed it had ended production of the three-door Jimny, Ignis, S-Cross, Vitara and Swift Sport for Australia, with a lack of autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems which meet new requirements understood to be the reason. While Suzuki stockpiled the models to keep them in showrooms throughout the year, it faces having relatively empty showrooms with just the Jimny XL and Swift.

The German carmaker has been known to go heavy on the carbon fibre treatment in some of its higher-end and performance models, with everything from interior trim to lighter weight exterior parts. BMW was an early adopter of using carbon fibre on a larger scale too, with its i3 and i8 featuring large amounts of the material. However, itβs recently been busy developing natural fibre composites, which it now says have βreached series maturityβ β short for ready for production.

Since then, reports of the Iconic SP heading to production have frequently emerged, though conflicting information has suggested it may replace the MX-5, or be a standalone model, or maybe not even reach showrooms at all.

Unveiled in the Middle East and US overnight, the Patrol Nismo β or Armada Nismo in North America β has made a return, having been available on the previous-generation Y62. Nissan has adopted a familiar formula, with the Patrol Nismo seemingly being equally as inspired by its Z Nismo sports car stablemate as its predecessor, though that may just be down to its exclusive Stealth Grey paintwork.
