MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang yesterday clarified that President Marcos won’t literally sit at bicameral conference committee deliberations on the 2026 budget, but is watching over the process to ensure that the spending measure would be in line with his administration’s priorities. Last Tuesday, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said Marcos is closely monitoring the process for next year’s national budget and is even ready to sit at the bicam if necessary.

MANILA, Philippines — An estimated 1.2 million passengers availed themselves of free rides across three rail lines in Metro Manila on the first day of President Marcos’ “libreng sakay” program as part of Labor Day celebration. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the figure was an “all-time high” libreng sakay ridership across the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 as well as the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2.

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has sent face masks, hygiene kits and food packs to victims of the eruption of Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon. As of yesterday, up to 14,830 families composed of 74,209 people had been affected by the calamity. Of the figure, 19 families composed of 61 people are staying in two evacuation centers. The OCD-Bicol said it is mobilizing support and resources to address the needs of the people who are reeling from ashfall.
