IMPERIAL— Turning Point Men’s Home celebrated its 30th anniversary helping men with life-controlling problems, Friday evening, April 11, at the Imperial Fairground’s Casa de Mañana Building. The festivities included a banquet, testimonies, an alumni introduction, praise team music, fundraising, and a silent auction. Norman Chandler, director and pastor of Turning Point Men’s Home, welcomed the alumni, board of directors, volunteers, family members, and guests.

IMPERIAL— Faith Academy students displayed 98 pieces of artwork for parents, families, and teachers on Friday, March 14, at the Student Center, 320 S. J St., along Highway 111 in Imperial. Students’ artwork included paintings, watercolors, sculptures, oil pastels, LEGO bricks, and other media to express creativity. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade participated in this school-wide art project.

IMPERIAL— Drivers smashed cars into crumpled metal and smoking engines Saturday evening, March 8, at the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta’s Demolition Derby. The audience cheered from the grandstand as five drivers revved their engines, roaring loud and heard throughout the fairgrounds. Once drivers released the brakes, tires spewed dust and chunks of dirt into the air and the cars chased one another with only one goal — to demolish and incapacitate the other cars.

EL CENTRO— El Centro Chief of Police Robert Sawyer presented the city council members with an update of the police department’s Unmanned Aerial System Program (UAS) Tuesday, March 4 during the regular council meeting at City Hall. Police Chief Sawyer used a slide show highlighting the progress of the program. One slide, titled “Where we are today” listed: six certified pilots, three drones in the UAS fleet, 24 missions flown, and two collaborations with the El Centro Fire Department.
