The alleged assault happened at approximately 1.30pm on Newbridge Road last Tuesday, May 6. A group of youths had gathered in the area when they were approached by a male in his 40s who proceeded to berate them before punching one of the young men in the face. He then walked away from the scene in the direction of Gort Road. Co. Clare Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Catríona Holohan released a statement appealing for information on the incident.

An application was put forward by the chain in 2024 to Clare County Council for the construction of a single storey, discount foodstore spanning a gross floor area of 2,290sqms. Lidl’s brand-new store in Claregalway in Co Galway will open on Thursday, May 22 at 8am, taking the retailer’s store count to 11 in the county and creating 30 new jobs for the local area. Plans for the new chain were announced in 2024 after An Bord Pleanála granted permission for construction on a greenfield site on the N83, in the centre of the village.
