Scammers are sending counterfeit invoices, using what looks like the official letterhead of the county, to defraud residents in Cumberland County, officials said. According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, the scammers send residents an invoice detailing a number of charges from the Cumberland County Planning & Inspections Department.

U.S. Marshals have apprehended a juvenile wanted on a charge of first-degree murder in the November shooting death of a Lumberton woman. According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Ke'Won Parker was taken into custody at 8:25 a.m. on April 17. On March 27, the Sheriff's Office announced that they had secured a juvenile petition for Parker, charging him with first degree murder in the death of Brittany M.

A Fayetteville man was arrested at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, after a body found in a Robeson County pond on April 13 was identified as the mother of his child. Tyrique Zavier Leroy Williams, 26, is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of death in the killing of Annie Lock, 27, the Fayetteville Police Department said in a news release. Lock was reported missing Oct. 10 after last being seen near her Kiana Lane home on Aug. 17.

The Fayetteville Police Department is aiming to increase its female officer representation to 30% by 2030, joining the nationwide 30x30 initiative. Currently, women make up 21% of the force, higher than the national average of less than 14%.
