Eight Jeopardy! contestants listed on J-Archive are from the Fayetteville area. Fayetteville's connection to historical figures like the Marquis de Lafayette and Hiram Revels has also been highlighted on the show. Fayetteville's place in history has earned the city several mentions on Jeopardy over the TV game show's 61-year run.

A fox found under a Fayetteville home has tested positive for rabies, Cumberland County Animal Services announced June 5. According to a news release, a home inspector was bitten on the right foot by the fox May 30 in the 6100 block of Garden Court, neighborhood off the north end of Ramsey Street near the bridge over Interstate 295. The fox was captured and euthanized, and its remains were sent to the N.C. State Public Health Lab which confirmed the fox was rabid June 3.

The identity of a woman killed by a passing train near Chance Street has been released by the Fayetteville Police Department. According to police, Tawante Shree Sykes, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene May 31. The incident was reported shortly before 11:30 p.m.Police did not respond to questions asking where Sykes is from or if she was a pedestrian.

A Fayetteville man pleaded guilty earlier this month to the ambush killing of a former friend and injury of the man's young stepdaughter at an apartment complex off North Reilly Road in 2022. Rondell Marquis Easterling, 34, pleaded guilty May 22 to charges of second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied property in the Dec. 11, 2022, death of Bishop Tyrone Dwayne Rhone, 27, of Fayetteville.
