Boston Marathon hopefuls Conner Mantz and Clayton Young came to Massachusetts to train on the course this winter, but most of their training happens in the small city of Provo, Utah. Provo, 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, is the home of snowcapped mountains, beautiful valleys and Brigham Young University. More importantly for the marathoners who train there, it is more than 4,500 feet above sea level. "It is a mental battle; some days he's got it and I don't," Young said.

The hope of Hopedale Junior-Senior High School's track team rides on the broad shoulders of Ari Levine. "I'm working all year round," Levine said. Putting in the work shows in the way Levine competes in the shot put — the second-best throw in all of Massachusetts at over 57 feet. His dedication shows in how he launches the javelin, how he effortlessly throws the discus, and how he supports his younger teammates, who watch in admiration. Hopedale has fewer than 500 students in six grades.
