OSBURN — A fire that broke out inside the Seventh-day Adventist Church early Thursday has been ruled an accident, according to the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office. Shoshone County Fire District No. 1 Chief John Miller said the initial call came in around 1:30 a.m. after a resident noticed smoke coming from the building. Crews from SCFD1 and Shoshone County Fire District No. 2 responded to the fire, and several other agencies assisted throughout the morning.

WALLACE — Additional work is needed to stabilize a section of Moon Pass that was buried beneath a rockslide over a year ago. Jessica Stutzke, Shoshone County Public Works director, said the project has reached its construction, engineering, inspection and sampling phase. The project has been 100% funded through emergency dollars with no cost falling on Shoshone County. The funds were secured through state and federal agencies including the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council, FHWA and FEMA.

KELLOGG — It's that time of the year again, spring has sprung, and the Silver Valley’s feral feline population is heading toward a stray cat-astrophe. Fortunately, this also just so happens to be the time each year when the Silver Valley Cat Wranglers hold their silent auction fundraiser, and for one night only, the Dirty Dog Saloon becomes the Dirty Kitty Saloon. The Cat Wranglers are a nonprofit group working on the frontlines of Shoshone County’s battle against the feral cat population.

MULLAN – For more than eight decades, the Lookout Pass Free Ski School has been teaching area youth the ins and outs necessary to hit the slopes. Tammy Nusz and her husband, Chris, have been involved with the school for the past 22 years, including running the school for 20 years. The school is a nonprofit extension of Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area that runs entirely off donations and the efforts of volunteers.

PINEHURST – Idaho State Fire Marshals said a faulty neon sign resulted in a fire on Thursday evening at Jim’s Towing and Auto Repair. According to reports, Shoshone County Fire District #2 and other emergency services responded to the fire just after 6 p.m. The fire began in the office area of the building and did not spread into the auto shop portion. The ISFM reported that the fire damage was limited to the office, but there is some smoke damage throughout the rest of the building.
