Fire at soon to open bakery quickly extinguished

(May 18, 2025) The Nantucket Fire Department on Friday morning quickly put out a small fire in the Orange Street building that formerly house the Fast Forward coffeeshop and was soon to be home of the Slow to Rise bakery, slated to open next week. The fire was reported just after 6 a.m. and the fire department responded with two engines, the ladder truck and about a dozen firefighters, who made quick work of the blaze.

Cisco Brewers, The Gaslight and The Chicken Box have your musical needs covered. Pete Murano and the Assassins will play the Box on Dave Street Friday and Saturday with shows starting around 10 p.m. 21 and over. Cover at the door. Murano, the guitarist for Trombone Shorty, was born in the Northeast, but moved to St. Louis and finally settled in New Orleans.

(April 3, 2025) Time to get trashy. The sixth annual Nantucket Litter Derby will be held from 6 a.m. Saturday through noon Sunday, with an after-party and awards ceremony at Cisco Brewers. More than 87,000 pounds – 43.5 tons – of litter have been removed from the environment by Litter Derby participants over the past five years.
I&M takes home 19 awards from regional journalism competiton

(March 31, 2025) The Inquirer and Mirror took home 19 awards, including seven first-place honors, at the New England Newspaper and Press Association's 2024 Better Newspaper Competition, presented over the weekend in Portland, Maine. The awards come on the heels of the I&M being named a NENPA Distinguished Newspaper in its circulation category at its annual fall conference in October. Summer resident William Chisholm, co-founder of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Symphony Technology Group, is purchasing the team from the Grousbeck family for $6.1 billion, the most money ever paid for a professional sports franchise in North America.
ShamRock Run set for Saturday

(March 12, 2025) Lace up your running shoes and put on some green Saturday morning if you're interested in some exercise and good-natured competition. The 13th annual Shamrock Run to benefit Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals kicks off at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Cisco Brewers at 5 Bartlett Farm Road. There will be two Little Leprechaun Leaps prior to the race, one for children 18 months to 4 years, the second for children 5-10.
