    DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Iowa Jazz Championships happened earlier this month in Ames. The championship featured 60 of the best high school jazz bands in the state, including 15 from each class. One Davenport Central student has a promising future playing jazz. Baylee Parker is a naturally skilled musician. She grew up in the church and was always listening to music, which David Nicholson, Co-Director of Davenport Central bands, said has helped her as she moved through the program.

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - For 85 years, the Centennial Bridge has kept the Quad Cities connected, but as the bridge ages, experts say maintenance costs keep rising and frequent repairs are no longer sustainable. The Illinois and Iowa Departments of Transportation are working together on a plan to improve the bridge’s conditions and come to a solution. But the first step in the process is all about developing a long-term solution with the help of the community.

    DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A group of high school and college students showcased their culinary skills Friday. The Scott Community College Culinary Center hosted an event where students worked together to whip up globally-inspired dishes. Reese McRae, an instructor for the Scott Community College Culinary Arts program, said it allows the students to work together. “When they first come into the program, we push teamwork, collaboration and working together, and everybody’s included,” McRae said.

    DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Quad Cities Builders and Remodelers Association hosted the first Build My Future/Care for My Future event in the Quad Cities. The event, which began in 2017 in Springfield, Missouri has expanded nationally to 11 states, organizers said.
