MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris’ 2026 budget proposal calls for a 20% cut in property taxes. If approved, this would be the county’s lowest property tax rate in nearly 30 years. Mayor Harris presented a $1.7 billion budget to the Shelby County Commission on Wednesday. That’s up from last year’s $1.6 billion budget. The mayor also wants to give county employees a 3% pay raise. Last year, they received a 6% bump in pay.

Attorney Ben Crump’s firm is issuing an update to a previous statement issued Monday in the aftermath of the sweeping not-guilty verdicts for the three Memphis police officers who were accused in Nichols’ traffic stop beating death.

(WMC) - Memphis may have the best drinking water in the nation, but Thursday, Memphis Light Gas and Water’s customer service for the water division ranks as the worst among mid-sized utilities in the South. The 2025 J.D. Power Water Utility Customer Satisfaction Survey, released Wednesday, asked more than 300 customers about the quality, reliability, cost and ease of doing business with MLGW’s water division.
