(WMC) - Community outcry continues over the Southwest Memphis xAI facility’s active use of gas turbines as the Shelby County Health Department considers approving or denying continued use of the turbines. Wednesday, the Shelby County Commission introduced a resolution calling on xAI, Tennessee Valley Authority, MLGW and the Chamber of Commerce to provide an update on when the data center can end the need for using these methane-powered turbines.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The massive department store building on Poplar Avenue that was the home of Macy’s will soon be demolished, with Oak Court Mall following soon after. The mall was purchased in 2023 by Poag Development Group, a team of local investors led by Josh Poag. Macy’s was purchased soon after as the retailer planned to close the store. “It’s a great piece of property in the heart of Memphis,” says Poag.

But, there was a bit of pressure on the Memphis Police Department and their mission to keep downtown safe as we head into the summer season, and more specifically, the outdoor festival season. However, MPD says there were no incidents of note that affected this weekend.
