When Maureen Conway and Mai Harrison were asked to be the chairs of this year’s EN KA fair, they readily agreed. Harrison says, “Every year EN KA asks or chairs and I’ve always wanted to help bring joy to the town. Plus, it works for my schedule.” The Arlington St. mother of three high school students, wanted Winchester News to be sure to let readers know that the fair hours are different this year.

When Wendell Street resident Meg Mehn was looking for ways to give back to the community, she decided to join The Friends of Winchester Library. When asked why, Mehm says, “I used to take my kids to the library every week — it was an important place for them.”They found the library very welcoming. “We mail the newsletter to every household twice a year,” she says. The Friends raises funds to buy books for the library and this year the goal is $60,000.

The Winchester Community Music School broke ground last week for a new wing, named in honor of the school’s co-founder Corie Nichols. “It’s so amazing to think that when the school opened in 1981, we had 30 students,” Nichols said.

When High School Junior Jacob Lieberman was stuck at home during COVID, he enjoyed baking with his mother. “It was a new thing for me,” he says. “We’d bake something different every day.”Five years later, he and his twin sister Mason and their friend Rachel Dunlap had a brainstorm and started a baking club. “We wanted to give back to the community,” he explains. And their Bake It Forward Club was born. The High School cooking room has five kitchens, he explains.
