The Winchester Community Music School broke ground last week for a new wing, named in honor of the school’s co-founder Corie Nichols. “It’s so amazing to think that when the school opened in 1981, we had 30 students,” Nichols said.

When High School Junior Jacob Lieberman was stuck at home during COVID, he enjoyed baking with his mother. “It was a new thing for me,” he says. “We’d bake something different every day.”Five years later, he and his twin sister Mason and their friend Rachel Dunlap had a brainstorm and started a baking club. “We wanted to give back to the community,” he explains. And their Bake It Forward Club was born. The High School cooking room has five kitchens, he explains.

This column will take a break for a while. Apparently you know Winchester very well, and nobody is guessing any more. See last week’s photo to refresh your memory. Nobody guessed that it was a photo of a lamp inside China Sky. The Trump administration is gutting funding for farms and agricultural programs across the country, but Winchester’s Wright-Locke Farm is largely insulated from those cuts, because it relies almost exclusively on sales and donations.

On Sunday, April 6, the eighth rendition of WinMUN, Winchester High School’s annual Model United Nations conference, kicked off with the strike of a gavel. This year marked a new milestone, with over 300 delegates representing 26 schools across more than four states — doubling last year’s attendance. Backed by over 50 staffers from the high school, the conference has left the drawing board and come to life.

The Select Board on April 7 approved the 56-article warrant for the 2025 Spring Town Meeting and advanced a series of proposals ranging from flood mitigation funding and outdoor dining approvals to new draft regulations under the town’s tree bylaw and a commercial waste pilot program. Board members also made several key appointments and discussed preparations for upcoming Town Meeting sessions, which begin April 28 at Winchester High School.
