BRICK – The public had the opportunity to ask questions about the 2025 municipal budget before its adoption during a recent Township Council Meeting. The spending plan was introduced in March. The proposed 2025 budget totals $122,711,490, with an increase of 1.9 cents on $100 of assessed value, or a $47 increase for the average Brick household. Last year’s budget totaled about $117 million.

BRICK – The new Mantoloking Road Playhouse had two sold out shows on its opening weekend, in no small part to the performer, “Remember Jones,” who brought his 17-piece band to the new venue for the electric and soulful performances. BRICK – In 2015, the governing body passed the Storefront Revitalization Program to encourage small businesses to come to Brick and occupy vacant storefronts. The ordinance was renewed in 2017, 2019, 2022 and now in 2025, the council voted unanimously to extend the ordinance, which includes waiving fees for business owners who renovate an existing vacant commercial property.

When An Emergency Hits, This Community Responds

BRICK – During a 2021 forest fire that started near Lakewood Airport and quickly grew out of control, hundreds of firefighters from all over Ocean and Monmouth Counties responded to the emergency, which ultimately consumed 167 acres and damaged 29 Brick homes. BRICK – The township has accepted a land donation located at the corner of Herbertsville Road and Maple Avenue, property that has been identified by the Brick Open Space Savers Committee (BOSS) as an appropriate addition to the township’s Recreation and Open Space Inventory. “It should be noted that the township is specifically not accepting the adjoining property owned by the same owner as it has a single family home on that lot,” Mayor Lisa Crate said during a recent Township Council meeting.

BRICK – Meatballs with sauce. Meatballs without sauce. Swedish meatballs. Spicy meatballs. Meatballs with pink sauce. Meatballs made with a variety of ingredients and preparation methods. These were some of the entries offered at a Meatball Competition, hosted by the American Legion Post 348 on a recent Sunday afternoon. Now in its third year, the contest has become so popular it will become an annual event, said chair Dina Guido.
