WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on Wednesday lowered its estimate how much President Donald Trump’s tax-cut and spending bill will add to the national debt, saying it would add about $2.4 trillion to the nation’s $36.2 trillion in liabilities. The new assessment comes a day after key Trump ally Elon Musk blasted the bill as a “disgusting abomination,” giving fresh support to Republican deficit hawks who have been pushing back against the measure.

(Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday redoubled his calls for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to lower interest rates, noting that payroll processing firm ADP reported that job creation slowed in May. “ADP number out. ‘Too Late’ Powell must now lower the rate. He is unbelievable. Europe has lowered nine times,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

KEWANEE, Ill. – The Henry County Coroner has confirmed that a body found last week was that of a Kewanee man who recently went missing. As previously reported, 39-year-old Catrelle Reed went missing on May 22, and was last heard from earlier that day. According to Kewanee Police, a concerned citizen found the body Friday during a coordinated search west of Kewanee. Though the coroner conducted an autopsy, Reed’s cause of death was not released.

PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Peoria Heights has hired a former Peoria fire chief to temporarily lead its department. Tony Ardis tells 25 News he’s willing to serve only on an interim basis to replace Dan Decker. The village board did not renew Decker’s contract during a rare Saturday session on May 24. Decker had been the Peoria Heights fire chief for less than two years. Ardis spent more than twenty years with the Peoria Fire Department. He retired in 2021.
