The city introduced a plan to roll out student OMNY cards on Thursday. Eligible students will be able to have cards for the start of the school year. The initiative will replace the current student MetroCards, eliminating the current restrictions that the cards are programmed to. Students will be able to ride for free four times a day and can use the cards 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Experts say West Nile virus has been detected in all five boroughs this summer. "Prevention is key," says Brianna Eluscious, of New York City Health and Hospitals Kings County. Unfortunately, there is no cure for the virus, but Episcopia says there are measures to take to try and avoid it. Avoid going outside during dawn and dusk. Make sure to wear sleeves on your arms and legs. Insect repellant is suggested. Only about 25% of those bitten by an infected mosquito will experience symptoms.

Brooklyn officials say to be wary at the beach today of “life-threatening rip currents.”
Red flag warnings were implemented at Coney Island - meaning swimming is off limits due to the choppy and dangerous waves. The currents are strong enough to carry away even the most skilled swimmer.
News 12 observed no lifeguards on duty during the warning and swimmers in the ocean.
The city has seen several near-drownings and two teens who fatally drowned.
