The din in the chicken barn is almost overwhelming. Thousands of hens cluck, squawk and peck as they bustle through low doors from the frosty fields outside. “You want them to be noisy,” said Peter Brown, 70. “If it’s quiet you know there’s something wrong.” Peter is the third generation of Browns to farm this land on the Suffolk-Cambridgeshire border. His son Daniel, 42 — with whom he runs the farm — is the fourth. “My grandfather Jonathan Brown started here in 1912,” Peter said.
