Supporters of Lisburn’s Downtown Centre have gone to new heights to raise vital funds for the local charity. On Saturday May 31, a dedicated team of 25 supporters stepped up for the Lisburn Downtown Centre, completing a monumental day of fundraising in the Mourne Mountains. Thirteen determined hikers tackled the Mournes 7-7 Challenge, conquering seven of the highest peaks, including Slieve Donard and Slieve Binnian, covering 25.5km and 2,494 metres of elevation in one gruelling day.

Four budding local young actors will be showing off their talents when they join Belfast Operatic Company’s very special production of The Sound of Music. Lucy Bowes, Petula Pei, Theo Blacklock, and Louisa McComb will be playing some of the Von Trapp children when the show opens at St Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast from Tuesday June 24 – Saturday June 28.

A multi-million pound scheme to improve safety at an accident blackspot in Derriaghy is “progressing as planned” according to the Department for Infrastructure. The scheme at the junction of McKinstry Road and the Cutts was given the green light last year and work began in October 2024. Motorists have faced delays due to lane closures during the work, however, it is expected that the £2.4million road safety improvement scheme will be completed later this summer.

Following an incident at the CEX store in Lisburn last year, the Police Ombudsman has recommended that police officers receive an enhancement to their training to improve how they respond to members of the public who are autistic and may have individual communication needs. The recommendation follows the completion of an investigation into an incident in December 2024 when a young autistic woman was physically removed from a shop by four police officers and her father.
