With Cinco de Mayo on May 5, the results of The Herald-Mail's Mexican-style restaurants poll are in. The Herald-Mail asked readers to vote for their favorite Hagerstown-area Mexican-style restaurant. El Ranchero, which has restaurants at 1481 Wesel Blvd. and at 1715 Dual Highway in Hagerstown, got the most votes with 185 votes or 27.37% of the 676 votes cast. It was a neck-and-neck race between longtime restaurant El Ranchero and Fajita Grande in Hagerstown's North End.

20-year-old Summer Giffin was identified as one of two victims struck by a MARC train in southern Washington County, Maryland, on May 6. Both pedestrians died. The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on CSX tracks near Sandy Hook, involving a train traveling from Washington D.C. to Martinsburg, West Virginia. Both CSX and Maryland Transit Administration officials emphasized the dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks.

Traffic signals at the intersection of U.S. 11 and Pear Tree Lane/North Clifton Drive in Williamsport, Maryland, were damaged on April 25. Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of May 2025 to get the signal system operating again. Temporary stop signs and electronic message signs are in place to manage traffic flow.

With varying reports on social media about an incident involving a train in southern Washington County, a CSX official confirmed May 6 that an incident involving a MARC train is being investigated. CSX spokesman Bryan Tucker, via email, confirmed an incident involving a MARC train occurred on CSX tracks. A CSX special agent responded, as well as Washington County first responders, Tucker said. He referred further questions about the incident to the Maryland Department of Transportation.
