Professional golfer Mackenzie Hughes is experiencing childhood nostalgia at this year’s Canadian Open in Hamilton, including some regarding the local CFL team. “I went to Ticats games, maybe a handful of them when I was a kid,” Hughes told 3DownNation. “I’ve been there cheering them on and I know all the chants: ‘Oskee Wee Wee.'”The Dundas, Ont. native is seven under par through two rounds at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, a course he’s played around 50 times in his life.

The Ottawa Redblacks have released quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome, per sources. The 26-year-old played 14 games for Ottawa as a rookie, primarily as the team’s short-yardage specialist. He carried 39 times for 105 yards and six touchdowns while attempting seven passes with three completions for 46 yards through the air. The five-foot-nine, 206-pound pivot began 2023 with the Winnipeg Blue Bomber, becoming a preseason sensation.

The New England Patriots are re-signing Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke, sources have confirmed to 3DownNation. The news was first reported by NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Rourke was scheduled to become an exclusive rights free agent on March 13, meaning the Patriots needed only to extend a one-year qualifying offer at league minimum in order to retain him for 2024.

The Toronto Argonauts have hired former CFL quarterback Drew Tate as an offensive assistant, per sources. The 39-year-old was the Saskatchewan Roughriders receivers coach for the 2023 season. Currents Argos’ head coach Ryan Dinwiddie spent one season (2016) as Tate’s position coach in Cowtown. The Baytown, Texas native started his coaching career as a defensive analyst for Coastal Carolina University in 2018. He was the B.C. Lions quarterbacks coach in 2019.
