May 31—MORGANTOWN — Armani Guzman, in his mind, is supposed to be a shortstop. "I've played the outfield a bunch this season, " Guzman tells the story. "I always tell (WVU coach Steve Sabins) I'm a shortstop. He kind of believes me, kind of doesn't."AdvertisementTo his left sits Sabins, who is grinning from ear to ear as Guzman voices the thought.

May 29—MORGANTOWN — It wasn't exactly a journey of 1, 000 decisions that guided Steve Sabins to West Virginia. Rest assured, there were plenty of steps the WVU baseball coach took that ultimately brought him to Morgantown. AdvertisementOthers were made for him. There was one instance where he was given the opportunity to back out. In a sort of leap of faith, Sabins also passed up his first opportunity to become a head coach in 2023 in order to stay with the Mountaineers as a head coach in waiting.

MORGANTOWN — The first point that needs to get across about the Clemson, S.C. Regional that the 24th-ranked WVU baseball team is set to open at noon Friday with a first-round game against Kentucky is that no one in the region is even close to being thought of as unbeatable. That includes No. 12 Clemson, the top seed and the host team in the regional. The Tigers enter the NCAA tournament having got banged around by North Carolina, 14-4, in the ACC tournament title game.

#WVU baseball has experienced a certain level of adversity lately. Head coach Steve Sabins called it "painful," but it is pain that's only come because the program continues to exceed expectations: https://t.co/O1gvCA2tA6

Another late-inning meltdown costs #WVU a shot at Big 12 baseball title. The chase continues Thursday, when 13th-ranked Mountaineers open 3-game series with Kansas needing 1 win to secure conference championship: https://t.co/HPi39ZxfY5

Two games. Two 9th innings. #WVU led Pitt and K-State by a combined nine runs and then gave up a combined 11 runs to lose both times. Never seen anything like it: https://t.co/8rI3ykGSST
