Girls basketball small school all-state teams announced: See who made it from Section V

Jordyn Dyring (Hornell), Jayla Bell (Lyons), Kendall Parker (Dundee/Bradford) and Sydney Reilly (Elba) are first-teamer. Section V has 28 selections in Class B, C and D. New York's all-state teams for small schools were released on Monday. Compiled by the New York State Sportswriters Association, the small school list includes four first-teamers from Section V and 28 picks overall. The large school teams (Class AAA, AA, A) are expected on Thursday.

Section V boys lacrosse season is over a month old, and some of the region's standout players are delivering for their respective teams. After the season, Democrat and Chronicle and Daily Messenger staffs will consult local coaches to determine post-season honors and recognize a top player. Though the season has only reached the midway point, it's not too early to predict who'll be recognized as the best of the best.

There wasn't much movement for Section V teams in the third week of the New York state girls lacrosse rankings. Of the 10 local teams included, only one team improved its standing. Biggest riser: Penfield — The Patriots were the only Section V team to move up in this week's list, bumping up one spot in Class A. Penfield's strong season continued on Tuesday, with a win over state-ranked Rush-Henrietta.

April rounds out with the third edition of the New York state boys lacrosse rankings. In this week's list, Section V teams largely stand pat. Biggest riser: Hilton — The Cadets are up three spots in Class B, thanks to an eight-game winning streak. Among Hilton's recent feats, a win over defending Class A state champion McQuaid. Bigger faller: Midlakes — The Screaming Eagles drop two spots in Class D, despite a three-game streak which Midlakes has outscored opponents 49-16.
