Championship season is underway. Over the next week, Section V hopefuls across four classifications will face off to determine regional supremacy. Finals are set for Tuesday, June 3 (small schools) and Wednesday, June 4 (large schools), at the University of Rochester's Fauver Stadium. Will the usual suspects like Fairport, Victor and Penn Yan continue stretches of dominance, or will other groups upset the apple cart? That will be settled in the days to come.

For local lacrosse fans, we've reached the most wonderful time of year. For the next week-plus, Section V teams will compete to determine champions across four classifications. Championship games are scheduled for Monday, June 2 (small schools) and Tuesday, June 3 (large schools) at Hobart, which will also host next month's state championship games. Both Honeoye Falls-Lima (Class C) and Victor (Class B) enter this year's tournaments with a chance at three-peats.

Ohtani vs. Trout. Enjoy.

Cayuga County had two candidates to capture state titles this weekend. Both bowed out in the semifinals, in tightly-contested games — again proving why it's so hard to reach the championship peak. Column from Troy, for @The_Citizen https://t.co/oxwwXbWRqU

Column from Friday for @The_Citizen: Glens Falls and the NYS boys basketball championships go hand in hand ... except for the three recent seasons when it didn't. https://t.co/MFHptTRVIa
