Georgetown City Council members have approved new ordinances related to homelessness, including a ban on people sitting, lying down or sleeping in public spaces downtown. The vote Tuesday was unanimous. It came after advocates for people experiencing homelessness expressed concern during public comments about the impact of the rules.

Austin is the third queerest city in the country, by some estimates. So why doesn't it have any lesbian bars? Theo Snow wanted to know the answer to this question, so they reached out to KUT's ATXplained project. "I’m curious why there aren’t any dyke bars — lesbian bars," they said. "Because I know they have existed but they haven’t persisted."Only San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, have more gay people per capita than Austin, according to the Williams Institute at UCLA.

Taylor Pride will hold its fifth annual music-and-arts festival later this month, despite a decision by Mayor Dwayne Ariola not to issue a proclamation recognizing the event. Denise Rodgers, the president and founder of the LGBTQ+ nonprofit, said she was caught off guard by the decision. "For four years they've issued a proclamation. They've always been very supportive and very present at all of our events," she said.
Williamson County DA sues Texas attorney general, joining others in challenge to new oversight rules

Williamson County has filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of new oversight rules imposed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Travis County filed a similar lawsuit earlier this month. The new rules require certain district and county attorneys to submit "performance reports" and grant the Attorney General's Office access to certain case files.

Seventeen-year-old Kafia Jackson-Woods jumped in place with nerves and excitement on Friday night as she waited join her team on the football field. The track star turned running back from McCallum High School had helped her team secure a spot in Austin ISD's first-ever girls' flag football championship. Now, Jackson-Woods and her fellow Knights were about the face off against an undefeated team from Bowie High School.
