AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo ISD filed denials Tuesday in two cases of student deaths. Emerson Cole was a student at Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School in 2023 when she died from a reaction to her dairy allergy. A federal lawsuit filed by her mother says she went to the school nurses office, but AISD admits the nurse was not on campus. It also says a clerk tried to address her distress and called 911.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Police Department has released new details on a deadly officer-involved shooting at Walmart on Georgia Street. Around 11:38 a.m., officers responded to Walmart to conduct a welfare check on a man reported to be sleeping inside a car. While trying to communicate with the man, officers observed a gun inside the car. Officers backed away for safety, and that’s when police say a shot was fired from inside the car. In response, one officer discharged their weapon.
