EL CENTRO — The Southwest Eagles baseball team faced off against the Holtville Vikings in a two-game series during the week of April 7, where the Eagles managed to sweep their opponents and remain undefeated in league play with a record of 6-0. In their first meeting on April 8, the Eagles secured a dominant 16-0 win. Starting on the mound for the Eagles was Cole Redden, who retired the side in the top of the first inning.

BRAWLEY— The Brawley Wildcats hosted the Calexico Bulldogs on Friday, March 28, for a close matchup that swung in favor of the visiting Bulldogs, 5-4. Heading into the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs got on the board first with a towering home run over the right field fence by Randy Baez. The score remained the same until the bottom of the second inning when the Wildcats headed to the plate. The Wildcats brought in a run with Tate Preece, who tied the game with one swing of the bat.

HOLTVILLE— During the week of March 17, the Holtville Vikings competed in a two-game series against the Palo Verde Yellow Jackets resulting in a sweep for the Yellow Jackets, thus securing two conference victories. With these two victories, the Yellow Jackets currently stand in first place starting the season. Starting the game on the mound for the Vikings was junior athlete Bradyn Terrill.

IMPERIAL— Within the city limits of Imperial, young Valley softball athletes participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new softball field on Sunday, March 23, which will be home to the El Valle Softball Club. Jeff and Tasha Dickerson, a husband-and-wife duo, supported their daughter and the El Valle team she plays for, helping make the development of this new field possible. Jeff and Tasha Dickerson's names were combined to create the field's moniker, JT Love Field.
ICBH donates $10K to Kennedy Middle School for mental health projects

During both events, Ricky Lewis, a driver from Oxnard, California, won the season finale on Saturday night at the Imperial Valley Raceway.

EL CENTRO— The Central Spartans hosted their annual Lefty Martin BaseballTournament, which began Friday, March 7 and ran through the weekend. “This is a tournament that we are proud to host in honor of my dad, Lefty Martin, who did a lot for the young athletes of this community, and we hope that we keep his memory alive as these young athletes continue to play the game he loved,” said Spartans Head Coach Gene Martin.

IMPERIAL— Kicking off fair season, the main stage lit up with a performance by Yachty by Nature on Friday evening, Feb. 28, as the tribute band played classic hits from the '70s and '80s. The band, which formed in 2016, performs music from artists such as Michael McDonald, Hall and Oates, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, Toto, and Christopher Cross. For over a decade, Yachty by Nature has brought yacht rock music to venues nationwide.

Brawley Wildcats crush Crusaders, advance to CIF Quarterfinals

BRAWLEY— The Brawley Wildcats defeated the Calvin Christian Crusaders in the initial round of CIF competition on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The Wildcats clinched a decisive victory, securing the win with a score of 59 to 46. During the first minutes of the opening period, the score remained locked at 2 points apiece until the Wildcats Mario Chiordi sank a three-pointer, giving the Wildcats a 5-2 lead. The lead didn’t last for long as the Crusaders' Sawyer Goggin made a field goal to tie the game at 5-5.
