SAN MARCOS, Texas — The City of San Marcos has approved a "can ban" for the San Marcos River and for certain parks. During a council meeting on Tuesday night, leaders approved a ban on single-use containers on second reading, to limit pollution. Leaders added restrictions for certain coolers in the ban, which will start May 1.

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Georgetown ISD's board of trustees is calling for a May bond election. The nearly $650 million bond is broken up into four propositions: Proposition A sets aside nearly $580 million for improvements related to growth. It includes funding for construction of a new elementary, middle and high school. Proposition B sets aside $20 million for technology improvements.

HAYS COUNTY, Texas — New mental health resources are coming to Hays County. The commissioners court approved the creation of a behavioral health coordinator position within the county health department during a meeting last week, and the job is now posted online. The coordinator will create programs to address mental health and substance abuse outside the criminal justice system.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police said one person is in the hospital following a stabbing in West Campus on Sunday evening. One person was stabbed around 7 p.m. at Nueces and West 26th streets. The victim was taken to the hospital. Police also detained one person. SafeHorns, the organization focused on safety issues at the University of Texas, has offered support to students impacted by witnessing the stabbing.

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas — The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is raising awareness about several incidents that happened earlier this week. A man is accused of robbing two separate convenience stores on two separate evenings. The suspect threw down counterfeit money, grabbed the tickets and ran from the store. The man reportedly got away with upwards of $800 worth of lottery tickets.
