    HOUSTON (KIAH)–After weeks of announcements from the Department of Public Safety concerning the REAL ID deadline, Houstonians and new comers to the city may be trying to book an appointment to get their identification REAL ID compliant. The deadline is today, but according to Homeland Security, there are some changes. Originally, not having a REAL ID meant that you wouldn’t be able to fly domestically and enter federal facilities and buildings.

    HOUSTON (KIAH)–A group of women apart of the Bethel Church Sewing Ministry are working to help children in need during their mission trips to Kenya, Africa and Belize just to name a few. The ministry is sewing clothes and delivering supplies to children. The group calls themselves the Bumblebees because like bees, they keep themselves busy doing work for the community and the world. Mary Cox is the founder of the group.

    HOUSTON (KIAH)– Governor Greg Abbott will be in Houston Wednesday morning for a roundtable discussion on Texas’ Deadly Bail System. Advocates will be present that are fighting for tougher bail standards and Texans who had loved ones killed by violent criminals that are now out on little to no bond. The governor will be meeting with Crime Stoppers of Houston’s CEO, Rania Mankarious, bail reform advocates, families of victims and law enforcement.

    HOUSTON (KIAH) – Dr. Bernard Harris is a former astronaut , proud University of Houston graduate and the founder of Versalius Adventures. He is being inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame next month on May 31 in Florida for his accomplishments over the years. Harris served on two missions in space one in 1993, the second and 1995 making him the first African-American to walk in space among his many accomplishments.

The week is celebrated April 20-26 and according to the , it was established in 1974. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, statistics show that over 75.7 million of the U.S. Population ages 16 and up volunteered for an organization between September 2022 and September 2023.
