PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man who shot a police officer in Churchland in early March was denied bond on Wednesday. During the bond hearing, the policeman who was shot was identified as Officer Rashaad Banks and he recounted the shooting incident. In his testimony, Banks said he responded to a domestic hostage situation on the evening of March 10 at the Henley Townhomes. He proceeded to detail his encounter with Rakeem Christian, 26.

(WAVY) — Virginia Commonwealth University students walked out in protest this week after learning that two international students and a recent graduate had theirvisas revoked — part of what immigration advocates are calling a sweeping and sudden crackdown affecting campuses across the country. VCU joins the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and George Mason University in reporting student visa terminations in recent weeks.

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Efforts to revitalize the old Tidewater Gardens neighborhood in Norfolk are one step closer, as crews broke ground Thursday on Phase 3 of the St. Paul’s Transformation Project. Now named Kindred, Tidewater Gardens became the first of the city’s three public housing neighborhoods downtown (Tidewater Gardens, Young Terrace and Calvert Square) to be demolished as part of the initiative.

(WAVY) — A Chesapeake massage therapist was in court Friday morning to be arraigned on sexual assault charges. 58-year-old Ahmed Zejjari appeared virtually Friday morning, where he was arraigned for aggravated sexual battery for an incident that occurred at a popular Chesapeake business called Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in the Greenbrier area.
